Founded in 2009 at the University of Michigan, the Akropolis Reed Quintet became the first-ever Grammy-winning reed quintet, taking home the 2025 award for Best Instrumental Composition. Winners of seven national chamber music prizes, including the Fischoff Gold Medal, the quintet (clarinet, oboe, saxophone, bass clarinet, and bassoon) has premiered and commissioned more than 200 works, championing an entirely new genre within the classical repertoire. This program features works by Florence Price, Jennifer Higdon, George Gershwin, and more.
